When the sun shines, Laurie Bashaw and her hubby take off in their car to explore. This day, they ended up in Baraga County, at Canyon Falls, located just south of L'Anse. These falls are often referred to as the "Grand Canyon of Michigan", due to the steep rock walls surrounding them.

Laurie said their visit was an easy walk on this hike, but they did have their ice spikes on their boots for sure footing. You can see from her photos that there was plenty of snow on the river and the falls were still quite iced up. These were snapped before our latest thaw, though, so there could be some melting since then. Sure is neat to see them all frozen in time like this, though.

So very pretty! I've only been there in the summer
and I loved it there. Very pretty spot!

Me too Deb; it was usually an Autumn trip for us. Have never seen it in the Winter white! A nice hike back there but a challenge in places for some.

Canyon falls is a beautiful place. Pictures are the only way I would see it in the winter. Thanks for sharing your lovely pictures.

Thanks Mary and all,
I imagine with all of the mild temps that we had this week, the river is more open. It is such a beautiful place, no matter the season.

When Mimi and I were first married we stopped at Henry Ford's Alberta village and went down to Canyon Falls Park, too. What a nice memory day that is. Kiitos, kiitos.

Beautiful pictures, I too have never been there, I'll make a point to check it out. Thanks for the tour!

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Saturday, February 25, 2017 - 03:37 pm:

Thanks, Laurie and Ed. I've only visited Canyon Falls in the summer.
Come to think of it, it's been awhile since I visited them at all.
Thanks for the reminder.

Scenes of snow, water, and ice are so scenic.
