Brenda Leigh had a fun opportunity last week, getting to ride along with her brother while he groomed the snowmobile trails over on the eastern end of the U.P. in the Sault Ste. Marie/Brimley area. The groomer is a new one and Brenda said she thought it looks a bit like a fire engine from the front. I can see her point, with the shape and color of the cab. Also pictured in the third shot, is the "dray", which cuts, drags, levels and compacts the trail to make for a smoother ride for all the snowmobilers.
The groomer adventure didn't end as planned though, when they had a break-down. Brenda said her brother is very knowledgeable when it comes to the mechanic end of machines and he was able to determine the problem right there on the trail, but it would be most of the rest of the day getting the groomer back to the garage to make the necessary repairs.
In the last photo, the two snowmobiles had just made a short detour around the groomer, as it broke down on a narrow spot in the trail. Brenda said it was at this point that she started her journey out to the main road on foot, which was only about a mile from this point. She only did so, because she didn't want to be out there until late at night and was already a couple hours over the predicted time for getting back home. So, not only did she get a fun and interesting ride on the groomer, but she also enjoyed a walk in the woods as a little bonus to end the adventure.

A ride-along sounds like fun, even with the breakdown. Brenda's positive attitude made all the difference about hiking out.

I would LOVE a ride along in a trail groomer. It would be great to see the remote areas in the woods. Great pics!

Oh how fun, even with the breakdown. Sounds like a fun way to spend the day. And then to run into deer along the way is an added bonus. Thanks for the outing, Brenda!

Strange looking ears on the deer in the background...looks like a jack-a-doe. I hope they weren't trail-bullied.
