This past Monday here in the Keweenaw turned out to be beautiful weather-wise. It was unseasonably warm at 45° and the sun shone bright all day. Cathy McKenzie hopped in the car with husband Jay and took off sightseeing around the Keweenaw, starting out in the Gay area.
First stop was the mouth of the Tobacco River and a bit upstream, showing that it is happily flowing and peeking out in more and more spots along the way to join the Big Lake. Still on the Gay/Lac La Belle road, Cathy captured some interesting shoreline ice which reminds me of a walrus with those icy tusks pointing down. Another sight along the way, a leaning tree, getting closer to taking a dip in Lake Superior, once the ice buildup melts away.
Out near Bete Grise, Cathy snapped a picture of the Lac La Belle channel, which looks to be opening up from its icy grip and a nice shot of a snowed in Mendota Lighthouse and grounds. There still seems to be some ice in this part of the channel, but not for long if we get the warm-up the weatherman is predicting for the weekend.
Cathy said this tour was their pre-Valentine celebration, which was topped off with a last minute display of color over the vast whiteness still covering Lake Superior in places.

Wonderful photos, thank you Cathy! I just love this part of winter when we start to get more sunshine. It's just awesome to get out in it.

Great pictures one and all. Mr. Sun turned up the thermostat a bit. There is nothing like the sight of blue water to melt away the winter blues. Thanks for taking us along for a very pleasant ride.

I just came from a walk out to the mailbox and paper tube. That sun is so bright and warm! Feels so good on my back and shoulders. Temp. here in Cornell is 45.6°F. The ice is melting away from my driveway. Gotta make room for some more, I suppose. Better wear your shades today. We don't want to burn our retinas. Hei hei
