We've featured photos of the many critters that visit Donna MacIntosh in her backyard before. She still has quite a number of deer visiting for some dinner and it looks like squirrels of various sizes and colors come there to dine in the winter months, too.

Her first two shots were actually snapped after the squirrel picture, since you can see that the snow covering the deer is also covering the hay pile Donna has out there for them to munch on. The second shot makes me chuckle, all covered with snow and that tongue licking in what I understand is their way of being able to smell better. From what I've read, a deer's sense of smell is better when their nose is moist, so they lick their nose to smell better.

Donna also took a short video of the deer in her backyard eating and said there is one point in the video where she zooms in on one eating the corn she put out for them, because the deer is like a vacuum cleaner just slurping it in. Enjoy the deer watching with Donna…just click on the arrow to play.

Footnote: In reference to the warning about feeding the deer anything but pellets this time of year, that we posted on Saturday, January 28th, Donna is able to feed the deer in her backyard corn, because she has been feeding them this diet since the fall, so their digestive system is used to eating corn. It's only when you introduce the corn or table foods all at once in the middle of winter, rather than gradually, that it's detrimental to their health.

Excellent pix, video and information...thanks for all the efforts.

Thanks for the information. I love watching deer
at any time. I could watch them for hours. When
one of my sons comes over and we're just sitting
outside watching the birds, he says it must be an
old person thing, lol. I told him that maybe he
could learn at a younger age to appreciate the
beauty around him. What do they do? They sit
inside and play with their computers. I've
nothing against computers, but you have the
capability right on your phones. Take your phone
outside and have your cake while you're eating it.
Just an opinion. Have a great day!

Yes, MrFistyFist, since so many of the predators have been removed, man now fills their place. Much better than being hit by a Honda and suffering for long hours from their injuries. And the lean protein is good for you too!
