Elaine Robbins said she just had a moment to snap this photo of an albino gray squirrel at her backyard feeding station in Lake Linden. Great coloring for this time of year in the Keweenaw, if you want to sneak around the feeders without being so readily noticed. Unlike his counterpart in the second photo, with that dark coloring he'd be hard to miss when he's skittering about to find something to eat.
Nice to see that birds and squirrels can co-exist around the feeders there, too. Elaine was quick enough to catch a chickadee and a downy woodpecker on her suet feeder, too. Between the birds flitting back and forth and the squirrels running up and down the tree, there's lots of action in the Robbins back yard.

Love these pictures. Simple pleasures are best.

Nice assortment of critters at the backyard lunch counter. I wonder what would happen if an albino squirrel and a weasel crossed paths. I have to say though that I have no use for squirrels, white, red, gray or plaid.

In this part of northern Illinois we have bountiful jet black squirrels.

I'm with Duane on this one. Not a squirrel fan. However, I love these pictures and they're fine in someone else's yard.

Hi After having to defend my attic from red squirrels, I agree with Deb & Duane.
Putting on my wildlife biology major hat for a minute, "gray squirrel" is the common name for the species Sciurus carolinensis. But both the albino squirrel in the picture here and the black squirrels D.A. mentions are in the species of gray squirrels (Sciurus carolinensis), just with different color fur.

Given your experience with 'em maybe that should be "Scurrilous carolinensis"!
Hi FR Nash, I did have some choice adjectives for the little buggers, a few even began with S...but this is a family page. ;>)
And yes, it is nice to see wildlife. I hope there will always be plenty of woods for the animals (including the squirrels)to hang out in.
