There's an interesting group on Facebook with the name, "You know your from the Copper Country...", where this past week there have been a few shots of the old bridge that joined Houghton and Hancock. I was sent this photo - credited to The American Bridge Company - that gives a birds-eye view of the construction, before the old Swing Bridge was dismantled. Interesting to try and compare the way it looks today.

Also, this past week, the Bridge Cam came back online. It's been awhile, and several out-of-the-area folks have expressed appreciation for restoring this unique window of current conditions in the Copper Country. As the shot shows, here's how it looked this afternoon.

Thanks for stopping by. Have a good week :o)

I have another site that I view the bridge and it has been so foggy that you do not see the red flashing lights on top of the bridge towers.

It is great the liftbridge-cam is working.

How do the mechanical workings of the HH lift bridge
compare to the one in Duluth?

Just love this lift bridge.

For anyone that never saw the old bridge or didn't witness the construction of the new bridge, or for whom it may not be obvious (that was nearly 58 years ago!), the two views of the construction are from the west, looking east (the new bridge is just west of the old one).

In the second photo, that's "Beautiful Downtown Burbank¹", er … Houghton beyond the bridge on the right, and the Quincy Smelter is seen on the left.
