Jean Dessellier takes her camera along whenever they go for a drive around the Keweenaw and today's pictures are a result of that. The first stop is just outside of Gay, for a look at the Tobacco River, still running strong, despite the snow and cold trying to contain it this time of year. It's neat how in some spots along the way, the ice has formed over the top of the river water, while it continues to rush underneath that icy canopy. Shows what a strong current can do.

Just look at all the Cedar Waxwings in Jean's third photo. That's amazing, as I don't think they're a real common bird around the Keweenaw and then to see a whole flock of them feeding on the fruit of a Michigan Holly bush. Yesterday, it was crabapples and Grosbeaks, today it is Michigan Holly and Cedar Waxwings coloring the Keweenaw.

So many little things that help us get through the winters here UP North.

That is a set of very nice photos. I like the first one of the Tobacco river with the snow and water. I didn't realize that cedar waxwings are a stay all winter bird. I've only seen them in the summer. Though I must admit when the ground is white the only forest I see is on side of the road.

Duane P. - Neither did I know cedar waxwings stayed through the winter. I had flocks of them all summer long, but never seen them in the winter. Interesting.

Love the cedar waxwings! They are around here and i have seen a flock swoop in and clean off all the berries on a tree in short order!

The Tobacco River sure looks different now than it did when my
cousin and I went exploring the back roads last summer. I would
even say it looks more beautiful in winter than it did last summer.
