The activity in the Marquette Harbor will get a little busier right now, as the boats come and go before the shipping season closes mid January. Danielle Adams was there in the Harbor while the Walter J. McCarthy, Jr. was in port at the LS&I dock.

The night time photos are my favorite, giving a sparkle and glow to the boat and everything around it. The daylight shots show you the coating of ice that the bow of the boat has accumulated. I'm guessing when the winds are whipping up waves on Lake Superior, the icy coating covers much more of the boat, from end to end.

Danielle mentioned that the McCarthy was here in Marquette delivering one of the last loads of coal for the season. She added that it will carry in one more load in January, which should be it's last for the season coming into Marquette Harbor.

Nice photos, I never get tired of seeing the Freighter's! Gotta be a bit cold out there on the water!!

Yup..... don't even have to read Mary's note to know who shot these photos! ;-)

Great pictures Danielle. My guess is that it was pretty chilly when you were out capturing those shots. Thanks for enduring the cold and sharing.

I agree Mary, the night shots are outstanding.

Also like the moose pictures in the review!

Great photos, Danielle, thank you for sharing! Image
number 4, Ice on the bow, is one of the most unique
photos I've ever seen of a lake boat. Calendar
nominee for sure!

Thanks everyone!!

Actually it wasn't too cold when I took these photos. It's been
tolerable, but thankfully the winds weren't whipping this night,
I'd have been frozen to the bone haha

Nice pictures! Hard to believe these ships are
still out there on these lakes. Not a job I would
want!! Hats off to those who do it every day!

Ice Under The Lights gets my vote for calendar.

I saw the McCarthy in Marquette the day before we left the U.P. Saw
it locking through at the Soo while we were crossing the bridge on
our way back to Toronto. Loved the double sighting.

Looks like those lakers ram a lot of something - with the ribs showing so much!
Love 2004 - beautiful shot.
