When you're heading to the tip of the Keweenaw, a favorite stop is often Great Sand Bay, which becomes Great Ice Bay this time of year. Joy Ziemnick gives us a glimpse of what winter is looking like UP that way with the wind and winter temperatures.
The first and second shots are from Great Sand Bay, in the second one you can see the Monastery peeking out of the tree line, as Lake Superior keeps rolling in to the icy shore.
Then Joy made a stop near Eagle Harbor, capturing the Big Lake splashing and crashing there, too. It looks like all the shoreline rocks are well coated with ice, along with any trees nearby. It's always interesting to me that even when you haven't been on a scene while the winds were howling and the snow was flying, that you can still tell which way the "blow" was coming from, by the snow that clings to the sides of the trees.
Joy also spotted a deer hanging out in Eagle Harbor. With the snow getting deeper now, they aren't moving around as much and most head to "deer yards" for the winter, where local sportsman clubs take on the job of feeding the deer herd.
The snow-covered highway scene could be any of the roadways here UP North, but Joy snapped this one between Eagle River and Jacob's Falls. Definitely a scene worthy of a post card depicting winter in the Copper Country.

Great sight seeing tour you were on. I like pictures of the lake summer, winter, spring or fall. I don't think she like winter much though. She gets crabby more often in the winter it seems.
