What a fun Christmas day it has been... hope the same at your house. I got back from a family get together this evening and realized: I haven't done today's Shoebox Memory!
Googling 'site:pasty.com Christmas' I ran across something I don't recall seeing before on these pages. It is a young Jim Kurtti on a field trip of a 1999 Hancock Finnish class, learning about Scandinavian traditions. One of the pages that caught my eye was the demonstration of the Swedish tradition of St. Lucia. Included are a couple of videos that enlighten us more on the subject. Bet that melody will be stuck in my mind as I fall asleep tonight.
1999 - before smartphones, before YouTube, Facebook, etc. The pages linked above must have been a first pass at creating a website for Finnish American Reporter, one of our earliest sponsors here at Pasty Central. Our thanks to them, and to the many FAR readers who have helped keep our pasty kitchen busy over the years, especially during this wonderful holiday season.
Have a lovely official day off tomorrow, and have a good week :o)
I had a nice Christmas dinner with Mimi's sister's grandson's family this afternoon. Nice people, good food, and we sang a few Christmas songs. After I got home those bird feeders needed to be refilled. After dark we got maybe 1/2" of snow and then the rains came. And wind! I guess that is what Tommy Kippens told us to expect. Of course this was only the fifth day of Winter, eh?
