Today we have a number of photos to illustrate the amounts of snow the various areas of the Keweenaw received beginning last week... and . The amount ranged from 12" all the way to 29", and we have now doubled that through mid-day today (Tuesday). Here's a breakdown of the photos in order:
Sierra Bishop snapped a shot of her hubby cleaning out their Traprock Valley driveway, showing some nice size snowbanks after only three days of snowfall. Check out the amount on the garage roof, too. Remember, four days before this snow event, there was barely anything on the ground.
Darlene McMahon took this photo of her son's van in their Laurium driveway. At least we think that's a van, as it's hard to tell when it's shrouded in white piles like this.
Dottie Abe had quite a surprise when she opened up the door of her Calumet home Saturday morning to see how much snow she had to shovel. Her comment was, "Where do I begin?"
Meanwhile, in Lake Linden, Mary Schmitt and her grandkids were cleaning out and playing some too. That's her driveway filled with snow, then a shot of it after the removal had begun. The next photo is her granddaughter sitting in the pile of snow that the plow dumped in the beginning of their driveway. With the next photo, you get a look at the tunnel Mary's grandson made into one of the big piles in the yard. Fun for the kids, not so much for the adults that have to move it around.
Bucky Hall took the last photo during his Saturday morning plow run for various businesses and people. This measurement was at Superior National Bank in Calumet, almost 29 inches there. And to show you that different amounts fall in different locations, just down the road from the bank, maybe a couple miles, the measurement at the Holiday Station Store was 22 inches. Further north at the Hut Inn, he said it measured at 16 inches. All these measurements from Bucky were taken from a 24 hour period of snowfall, from one plowing Friday morning, to the next one on Saturday morning.
As Cam Notes are being published today, the Keweenaw Snow Thermometer is up to 58 inches, and snow is falling at a record rate. We went from barely any snow here in the Copper Country, to almost 5 feet in a matter of less than a week. That's a lot of snow in a short amount of time, folks!

Oddly enough, I actually miss that kind of snow and would rather have to deal with that than the "it's summer.... it's spring.... it's summer..... it's autumn" weather we have been having down here.
