Winter has definitely arrived here in the Keweenaw. The past few days we've been bombarded with "lake effect" snow, to the tune of several feet in some places. That means that the Snow Thermometer is back up and running with daily updates on the snow depth, along with a convenient display of temps around the U.P. and the current gas prices here in the Keweenaw. E. Neil Harri snapped the photo of the Snow Thermometer yesterday for us and we've since gotten at least another foot or more of the white stuff, so yes, winter has come to stay this time.
The remaining three photos were taken by Jeff Dennis, a few days earlier, when the flakes were just beginning to fall. Jeff and his family hopped on their side-by-side for a ride, despite the cold and snow in the air. They ended up out at the Big Traverse boat launch, where Jeff fired up the grill they pull along on the trailer behind them. What a great memory for their kids, having a snowy picnic, all bundled UP against the arrival of winter. The Dennis family is a good example of the hardy Yoopers that live here in the Copper Country. No matter the weather, get out there and enjoy the beauty around you.
