This day 5 years ago was also a Sunday, the 13th of November. We had just finished a week with a Day in History reporting of the White Hurricane, the “Big Blow”... the storm of 1913 that devastated the Great Lakes. Since that previous Shoebox Memory, Michael McGovern has documented pieces of evidence from that event that occasionally litter his beach on the shores of Lake Huron. Very interesting video.
A remarkable Fall this year, with Summer lingering thus far. Almost shirtsleeve weather, at a time that typically sees a few inches of snow on the ground. And by the way, did you catch the “Supermoon” tonight?
Very interesting and fascinating video Charlie!

What a moving way to remember those lost during this storm. How those sailors must have suffered! The video shows how the loss echoes more than 100 years later.
As many have said about the Fitz, you have to think these ships wouldn't have been on the Lakes that day if they had had modern weather forecasting. We are so blessed!

Interestingly sad, indeed. Walked outside around 10:00pm last night, but the main-moon event was over, however it was very bright outside.

That is an interesting story. If the Lakes could talk they would have some very interesting stories to tell. The Great Lakes Shipwreck museum estimates that 6000 ships have sunk in the Great Lakes.
