Ashlee Harvey and her family recently made a trip to Marquette and along the way, explored a bit of the Iron Ore Heritage Trail, which is actually a 47 mile trail, connecting several communities in the Marquette area and explores the history of the Marquette Iron Range.
I'm not positive, but I think the photos here today are from a portion of the trail near Negaunee, which takes you to the Iron Industry Museum and overlooks the Carp River. Maybe someone can confirm if that is correct or not, as I'm not at all familiar with this trail, but definitely will be putting it on my "to do" list, which just seems to keep growing longer with all the places our Pasty Camist photographers take us to.
This sure looks like a great place to hike, no matter the season, scenic beauty all around you and from what I've read about the trail, plenty of information about the mining history of the area along the way. (Be sure to click on the underlined links in the notes here, for more information about the trail.)

Warning in Texas today, with all the strong winded campaign rhetoric and gusts of hot air coming to an end, all the cows will fall down!

Great hike! Many years you'd be wearing snowshoes to make that hike.

Karen: I have heard that those burls may be caused by some sort of virus that attacks the tree and the tree reacts by encapsulating the infected area with layer upon layer of additional growth.

Lots of leaves on the ground, not much on the trees. Nice pictures. That looks like a nice stretch of stream to cast a fly on next summer.
