What a beautiful weekend it has been here in the U.P.! This would normally be known as "Indian Summer", though we haven't had a really severe 'killing frost' - which is the usual occurrence in October. Out of curiosity I looked up "Indian Summer" to see when it first appeared on the Pasty Cam. Quite a significant discover: The initial mention appeared on the very first "Shoebox Memory", which we recall with the top photo above. It was the day Nancy Nelson proposed the idea of Shoebox Memories, and Harriet Coburn left a comment about her role as the "Indian Summer Queen", on the North American, the sister ship, as mentioned in the video.
Hope this great weather continues for awhile. It really helps those of us who have put off those last minute details for battening down the hatches before winter.
Have a good week :o)

So, we all have Nancy Nelson to thank for these wonderful memories! Thanks Nancy!
Charlie, your idea of the video has been a hit, and really adds to the 'shoeboxes'. Thanks to you too!!
This brings back pleasant memories from the distant past. In 1951 I sailed on the South American on my high school senior trip from Detroit to Mackinac Island and return.

I have a picture of the South American at the Cohodas-Paoli dock in Houghton with a rainbow in the background, the picture is black & white but the rainbow still stands out.

Great memories of the South American on her journeys in and out of the canal.
