During her lunchtime, Taana Kalliainen enjoys walking along the Houghton waterfront and I'm thankful that she can take us along with her through the lens of her camera. These shots were taken a couple weeks back when the colors were still hanging on, but beginning to fade and fall.
Even though the colors aren't vivid and bright at this point in Autumn anymore, they're still something to behold and what a perfect place to view them with the Portage Canal in the midst of it all. The waterfront trail there in Houghton is a great place for a peaceful walk, run or bike ride as it winds along the canal from the Ray Kestner Park, under the Portage Lift Bridge, past the Nara Nature Trails and off to Chassell. Check out that bottom shot…you can almost hear the leaves rustling under your feet! Fall in the Keweenaw feeds so many of our senses, I think that's why it's a favorite for so many.

Hi The colors against the dark, but sunlit, clouds are striking and quintessential autumn.

These images are just incredible, Taana! They show fall days in a completely different sense -- blustery, raw, powerful. One of the great things about shooting foliage on overcast days is that the really bright white highlights you get in full sun aren't present, so you see the colors as more pure and saturated. And I love the places in these images where small patches of sun are giving full illumination. Wow! Thank you for sharing!

Thank you Taana. I can even smell the autumn as you look at the sunset of the colors. The trail brings out the waning colors of fall but with the beauty of the pictures I can even imagine the smell of fall. Thanks.

Well now, this was a surprise! I really enjoy my lunch time walks. The majority of the trees are bare now and we all know what's to follow. That means that the walks on this gorgeous trail will come to a screeching halt until the white stuff is all melted. :)

Ride that trail daily when there in the summer. So nice to see it in the fall.
