Late today I was driving through Calumet and stopped at a red light. For a brief moment, a sleety kind of snow was falling (if sleety is a word). It reminded me of the second Sunday in October 2000. My son Jonathan had taken this shot on the top of Brockway that year. It's an historic place, if any of the old-timers out there remember the Skytop Inn.

I often remember the first snow around this time each year, because 41 years ago on this day a little boy was born, during a time of falling leaves, and a little falling snow. That little boy was Jonathan himself. Happy Birthday, moo-boy. (oh, there's a story about that, too. Maybe for another time).

Stay warm. Have a good week :o)

I used to love that place? Why is it not there
anymore? Such a fun little shop.

Anyway, I especially love the pictures from atop
that mountain at this time of year. Sure wouldn't
want to see snow, though.

Thanks, Charlie! I'm with Deb. I always loved that little shop. It was one of a handful of places that always provided a remarkable sense of tranquility and shelter the moment you stepped inside and closed the door against the noise of the wind. Time stood still in there.

I have seen both of these views, many years apart.

Want to add my "Happy Birthday" wish for your Jonathan. Nice to remember those little things about his special day. :)

Skytop Inn was a neat place! Does anyone know what happened to it? Why isn't it there any more? Did it move to a new location or what?
Beautiful picture from atop Brockway Mountain! The dusting of snow just adds a uniqueness to it!

Pardon me while my Nitroglycerin tablets kick in...that snow just freaked me out, man.
I remember the newer building...bought a couple of sweatshirts from there.

Bob & I would snowmobile up to the top of Brockway
and just sit up there and take it all in.
Heavenly!

Not sure if I recall being in that building?? Driving the 4WD trucks up there in November while deer hunting got a little hairy at times with the amount of snow in some of the valleys in the road. Had to tell Marty more than once if we got stuck he was walking outta there for help, I wasn't! lol Great memories!!

UC, one reference i found said this Sky Top Inn was replaced in 1965. That means i certainly was in this one before it was replaced. Can't beat the view, in any season.

I remember it too. I haven't been up Brockway for a few years. I
must rectify that.
