Freighters come and go at all hours of the day and night in Marquette Harbor, but I think my favorite shots of them there are when they're lit up at night. Danielle Adams was on hand at the docks recently, to capture the Buffalo as she arrived at the dock and then as dusk turned into the dark of night. All those sparkling lights over and around just add something magical to the whole scene.

The Buffalo has been around since 1978 and is a self-unloading bulk freighter, which means that this boat can unload its dry-bulk cargo without assistance from any equipment from the docks or shore. And the term bulk freighter means that it can carry unpackaged freight such as grain, coal, ore, salt, etc. I would guess being self-unloading is a bonus for the shipping companies, since they can dock just about anywhere and offload their cargo. Great pics Danielle. I enjoy the pictures of the boats taken at night. To me there is something hypnotic about the reflections of the lights shimmering on the water.

Great freighter shots, Danielle! This is one of my favorite places, too! :)

This sure brings back memories!

Hi
The second shot is really nice. We can watch ships go by on Lake Huron from the deck of our cabin, and it's nice to watch them go by all lit up at night. The lakers anyway; the ocean ships have minimal running lights.

Thanks, Danielle. We can always count on you to
get some really good freighter pictures for us.
