While visiting Sault Ste. Marie, MI, Bob Gilreath made it to the top of the Tower of History to take in the views from UP high. This 210 foot high tower not only gives you great views, but from the lower level you can learn about the early Missionaries, along with local and Native American history from the area.

Bob snapped some of the scenes he was checking out from the top, including a view of the Soo, with the locks included, some of the Octoberfest activities down below on the street, the Valley Camp Museum (which is aboard a real freighter), the Power Plant, and several views with the Edwin H. Gott and the James R. Barker as they make their way through the locks and/or passing by each other on their way.

When we visited Sault Ste. Marie a few months back, we didn't stay long enough to tour the Tower or the Valley Camp. I think another trip to the eastern end of the U.P. is in order next summer.

Quite the nice tour Bob! Thanks!

Janie, how much damage did you have from the flood? Hope things are starting to dry out for you!

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Monday, October 3, 2016 - 01:09 pm:

The Tower of History and the Valley Camp are both
must see, must do's! We have been to both.
Fortunately the flood waters did not raise to the
levels that were expected. And with all the head's
up about raising waters, the flood was not near
the disaster that it could have been. Within a
week after Cedar Rapids was pretty much full steam
ahead. We dodge a bullet!

GREAT pictures, thanks Bob!
We're planning a camping trip there next year and
speaking of Canada, have you ever heard of
Stompin' Tom Connors? A lot of his songs sure
could be about us Yoopers, eh!? We bumped into his
singing "Bud the Spud" last year - You can check
him out at:

Very nice, scenic set showing the lay of the land and water.
...and a swell review, too.

That's great news Janie! Glad to hear things turned out so well!

Thanks 4 sharing these wonderful photos. I've been to the top of Castle Rock, but need to get to the top of this tower.

P.S. 83 days 'till Christmas.

Thomas
This is easier than Castle Rock...they have an elevator.

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Monday, October 3, 2016 - 09:26 pm:

I didn't know that. Thanks.

By Donna (Donna) on Monday, October 3, 2016 - 10:14 pm:

getting that out here! 83 days till Christmas huh?
