It's always exciting when you spot a Bald Eagle flying overhead around the Keweenaw. Even more of a treat when you see one sitting in a tree and can snap some photos before it decides to fly away. Marsha Galbraith did the latter while on a recent visit UP North.

I love the shots against the blue sky, but there's something about the cloudy photos that draws me to them, also. Maybe the grayness ads a bit of mystery to this majestic National Bird. They always look so aloof and serious when either flying overhead or perched on a branch like today's photos.

While on my bike this week one day, I had one cross the road, not more than 15 -20 feet over my head. I saw it coming out of the corner of my eye and immediately knew by its size, it was a Bald Eagle. If only I had had my camera hanging around my neck, I'd have gotten a beauty of a shot to share.

Thanks for choosing my pics today, Mary! Most of my eagle pictures are taken along Keweenaw Bay. Great fishing there apparently! I always see at least one eagle driving from my cottage into L'Anse. I recently saw four on that trip before 10 a.m.! The eagles have come back strong decades after DDT depleted them.

Great pictures. It is nice to see the symbol of freedom flourishing once again. Thanks for sharing.

Great pictures, thank you Marsha! My absolute favorite bald eagle sighting of all time was close to your neck of the woods. It was a blustery day in early October in the early 80's, and I was in The Timbers, which I guess is gone now, but it was somewhere on the Skanee Road fairly close to Finns (the old Huron bay Tavern). I was looking out that big picture window overlooking Huron Bay and saw a bald eagle sitting in a tree. It took flight and just played on the wind, those massive wings stretched out perfectly straight, and it soared back and forth for a long time, just for the joy of it. Unforgettable.

Wonderful eagle, and the U.S.'s national bird.

Spectacular! I got to watch Eagles "kettling" one
day on Brockway Mountain....that's in the
Spring...when the warmer air is pushing the
colder air up and out......and there are little
"merry go rounds" for them...they fly in at the
bottom and ride in circles all the way to the
top, without flapping a wing...they get thrown
out at the top, fly back to the bottom to get
back in, and ride it up to the top again.
PHENOMENAL! What JOY they had....and....when an
Eagle loses a feather, it will get rid of one on
the other side, to keep it's balance. Incredibly
huge and smart!!

Beautiful! When we first took the boat out this
year, we went looking for an eagle's nest that we
knew had to be around. Sure enough, there was mama
and 3 baby eagles. So very cute. Always such fun
to capture these creatures! Thanks for sharing
yours!

Apparently you found the "Eagle Amusement Park at Brockway Mountain"! Love it!
