The Middle School Youth Group from St. Louis the King Catholic Church in Marquette made a trek in to see the Dead River Falls and Danielle Adams was hiking right alongside them all, snapping pictures along the way.
She said the hike was very challenging with lots of steep hills and a muddy, narrow path high above the falls. But Danielle said it was fun despite the workout getting there and it was just a perfect day for a hike like that. If the smiles on the faces in that group shot are any indication, I'd say it's definitely a bunch of happy hikers.

What, no ship photos from Danielle????? ;-) Then again, I suppose it would be hard to sail a freighter up the Dead River, even with a running start.....

Some more nice waterfall pictures this morning. All waterfall pictures are nice. The only thing nicer than being at a waterfalls is being there with a fly rod in your hands. Thanks for sharing.

Dead River Falls was one of the first places i visited when i moved to Marquette. Back then there was no sign to guide you. It was well worth the hike, as these hikers found out!

Been there several times. I remember the power house near the parking lot. Also, remember a Private home across the river from the power house that had a totem pole.

Same with me Jbuck, I haven't seen any photos of where the rope swing used to be, and the waterfall was a deeper drop? We used to swing out and drop in the water, that water hole was pretty deep and extremely cold no matter what time of year. I once saw a guy swing on the rope during the winter thinking he would come right back to the bank.... he didn't make it and had to drop in the water, he needed a lot of help getting back to the car! No Alex & Capt... it was not me!!! lol

What a FUN hike. Great pics!

Bob & UC, did you park by the powerhouse and hike upstream? Or drive down the power line from Forestville Road (highly illegal!) and hike downstream?
I can't figure out where the rope swing was either. Maybe a lot of those things were changed when the dam gave out in 2003??!

Jbuck, powerline's of course! lol

Maybe we can get adjoining cells! LOL!

I didn't see no rope swing but some talked about it on our way out there!!
FYI, there still is no marked path in the woods lol there's several ways to get there....hope you have a good sense of direction as you can get lost fairly easy and quickly!
One of the kids had to test out the water! He got wet, but being that young the cold water didn't phase him. He was also the one that found a crayfish when he was in the water.

Love those waterfalls.

Danielle, sounds like nothing has changed with the 'path'!
Glad there is always at least 1 brave kid in every group who will check things out. And great there are youth group leaders who will take kids out in the wild to see waterfalls, etc.

More waterfall pictures from the UP. There never seems to be an end to them. And are we ever lucky for that, or what? Thanks for sharing these. I love waterfalls.

Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper): "More waterfall pictures from the UP. There never seems to be an end to them …."
"The U.P. is home to all but one of Michigan’s waterfalls. There are more than 300 falls scattered across the U.P., ranging in size from under 5 feet to 48+ feet vertical drops."
Which is correct? I'd go with UPTRA. Has anyone seen them all? Not me, that's for sure <sigh!>
