That Tuesday morning started like so many others, a pleasant day here in the U.P., sunny skies, temps beginning to cool a bit here in Eagle River as summer was winding down.

The first I heard on the radio - an unconfirmed report that a small private plane had collided into the World Trade Center - turned out to be only partially true. Within a matter of minutes the news on every outlet was focused on this story... not a small private plane, but a commercial airliner.

I remember walking across the street to my son's house, the house he had recently purchased, where he was still asleep after a long night of working on our new wireless project. Pasty.NET was dial-up back in those days, a time of research for us, about the Internet's future direction. So much about the future was about to radically change.

The horrors that unfolded that day, watching our fellow citizens die in the unspeakable destruction, was like a terrible dream. Reality was still settling in toward evening when I realized I had not published the daily Pasty Cam picture. In my email I discovered a beautiful scene from Robert C. Wetton of Dollar Bay, known as RCW on the Cam Notes pages. Remember, this was years before Facebook, and before the term "social networks" came into use. I posted Robert's peaceful photo, and soon the comments came pouring in. (See Cam Notes Sep 11-2001)

RCW had been providing many memorable shots for the Pasty Cam, like the one with his kids in the big chair on Bumbletown Hill. But this sunset, on this particular day, seemed especially appropriate. When we heard of Robert's passing in March of last year, this is the picture of his that popped into my mind. There's something about that little twinkle of sun trying to shine through the clouds... even after 15 years.

I don' think we will ever fully recover from that day, everyone's life has changed with some feeling the impact more than others. But as Charlie says; "There's something about that little twinkle of sun trying to shine through the clouds... even after 15 years."
All we can do is to keep moving forward with a positive never-give-up, never-give-in attitude. May the Lord bless us and keep us safe.

A terrible day in our history and to the families
and friends who were victimized. God Bless those,

We remember the fear we felt that day and we remember the people who filled the churches to pray for America, to pray for all the families impacted, and to pray for protection in the days to come. We thank our Lord for answering those prayers then and now.

God bless America and her soldiers and first responders.

What a beautiful picture. Robert was such a great
guy. I miss his photos. They were always so
beautiful.

September 11 is another one of those days like
December 7 or November 22. If you happened to be
alive, you will always remember where you were and
what you were doing. So sad for everybody. Alan
Jackson put it so eloquently in his song, "Where
Were You" when the world stopped turning. Such
moving words that spoke to all of us; words that
can be used for all of these horrific events.

Thank God that good outweighs evil in this country
and around the world. It has been said that good
will always triumph over evil. I believe that.
It's what keeps me going.

There are two days that I will always remember where I was when I heard the news. The day that John Kennedy got shot and 9/11. The first one I was in the Army in La Rochelle, France and the second one I was on Wright Island on Isle Royale.
Unfortunately for the U.S. of A a lot of things changed after 9/11 and they well never change back.
