What do you do when the temperatures hit the mid 80's here in the Keweenaw? You take a cue from Jeff Dennis and friends who hopped on a boat and headed to the Portage Lower Entry Lighthouse for a swim. Jeff and family joined a friend and his family for a boat ride which included a stop at the popular summer swimming spot, White City. It's been the place to go to escape the heat for years and of course you can't go there and not jump off the breakwall into the chilly waters of Lake Superior.

Jeff snapped a few photos of the gang taking turns jumping in and then he took his turn, too. What a fun day for the family to spend together with good friends. I'm sure it will be a day that's etched in the kid's memory forever, enjoying the refreshing feel of Lake Superior and watching Mom and Dad join in the fun, too!

How wonderful! It's been years since I've been out
to White City....where did that part of the wall
move? It looks like it sunk!

Nice pics, looks like everyone had a great time! We used to do the same, many many years ago when we were kids. We used to be able to climb up to the next level and dive off, looks like they took the ladder down.

I wonder how deep it is there?

They never did (click→) Cliff Jumping at Canyon Falls? (You Tube video,1min. + 02sec.)

That wouldn't work for me — I swim like a rock!

Awesome place to visit. However, I like inching my
way into Lake Superior and you can't hardly do that
off of the breakwall. I prefer to go in down the
beach a ways. Sure does looks like fun, though.
How I miss stuff like this. We were out at
Wisconsin Point last weekend, on a totally
different breakwall. Lots of huge rocks, more like
the Upper Entry area. Still a great place to go to
feel like you're "home".

Thanks for these great pictures!

Ah! Those kids jumping into the cold water. I fondly remember doing likewise at the upper entry so many years ago in the late fifties and early sixties. The "breakwaters" was the happening place to be back then. We kids hitchhiked from Calumet and back for many days in those wonderful summers.
Thank you for stirring up those great times.

Hey UC, you're right - you can see only the outline of the ladder left. Those lawyers probably told them to take it down because of potential lawsuits!
