Jean Dessellier took advantage of the beautiful weather we've been enjoying here in the Keweenaw and headed out to capture some of the beauty that abounds in her backyard. She photographed everything from a butterfly, to birds and even a spider that is hidden quite well in the petals of a flower.
I'm not certain the type of butterfly this is in the top photo, but I absolutely love the colors. Looks like it could camouflage itself well, near a tree or wood pile.
Then in the second shot, that song bird has quite a beak full. Kind of looks like it will be feasting on a peanut for lunch or dinner. Whatever it is, that beak is extended wide open to hold it.
The bumblebee in the third picture just seems to be quietly sitting there, when in reality it is probably drinking up all the nectar it can from that flower. Jean was pretty brave to get that close to a bee like that. Hopefully it was too busy eating to pay much attention to her and the camera.
Did you spot the hummingbird in the fourth shot? When I first glanced at Jean's photos, I didn't see it there, but after a second look I saw it hovering there drinking from the same flowers the bee was after.
And finally in the last photo, you can just barely make out what I think is a spider on the lower portion of the middle of that sunflower. That has me wondering now, do spiders also drink the nectar from flowers or maybe that's not a spider in there at all!

Took me a second to see the hummer! Wouldn't have guessed they'd go for that type of flower!
Anyone near a good place to watch the meteors tonight?

The Butterfly is actually a Moth I believe. Amazing pictures!

I saw the spider before I saw the hummingbird! PHENOMENAL pictures!!!

The butterfly looks to be a Great Spangled Fritillary Butterfly.

Great pictures of flowers and critters. I like the picture of the bird who would rather eat than sing. Drizzle, fog and overcast here. The only meteors I'll be seeing is the American swimmers in the Olympics.

looks like that bumble bee found a good spot to take a nap. LOL...
Splendid color and detail! The last one could be anything from a spider to a fly, to a philanthropic honey bee named Cleaver, making a humongous pollination donation.

Spiders hang out on flowers like that and snare unsuspecting insects that come to get nectar or pollen.

Wilderness, the word, shares roots with willfulness, the condition of being ungovernable, beyond authority and control.
