Today's trio of photos were snapped by Marie Webb, who was here in the Keweenaw over the weekend. It was actually Marie's first time in the area and she discovered Houghton's waterfront trail right off the bat.
If you've never taken a walk, jogged or ridden a bike along this 4.5 mile trail that takes you from the Waterfront Park where Chutes and Ladders is located, to the bridge where Nara Nature Trail is, then you are truly missing out. Marie's first shot was taken just in front of the Super 8 hotel which has a great waterfront setting for their guests. The remaining two shots were taken along the paved trail. If you travel the entire length, you'll come across a small beach area, with a fire pit for bonfires, tables for picnics and more waterfront beauty, known as Prince's Point Beach.
This is one of those gems that is tucked in along the Portage Canal, where many folks get their daily run, walk or bike ride in with no worries about traffic, just fellow trekkers out for some fresh air and exercise.

I’m sorry to go off topic but I wanted to add this thank you note.
Dreams need to be fed and nurtured to keep them alive. For the eighteen years since leaving the UP, Pasty.Com has been feeding my dream of returning. I've never posted before but feel obliged to finally say thank you for the daily glimpses of the place I love. The daily contact was enough to keep me connected while I made a living in the LP, and perhaps the daily contact added enough of a final push to get me to change my job to one where I work remotely. Today, the dream I’ve nurtured for so long comes true as I’ll be driving a big U-Haul north to MQT with my wife and kids :) .
I've followed the site daily since almost its beginning. There is no better way to start the day than a cup of coffee and a visit to the Pasty.com. The site genuinely captures the spirit and culture of the Keweenaw so beautifully. Charlie and company have done something amazing to keep this site updated day after day for almost two decades. I think that much of their commitment to the site stems from a true love of the Keweenaw and a desire to showcase it to the world. I remember Charlie telling a story about how when worked in the lower peninsula, before he and his family moved to the Keweenaw, when the stress of work wore on him, he would mentally playback the entire drive to Eagle River. What a wonderful image, I can certainly relate to the sense of peace one gets seeing pictures of the place they love and are so far removed from. Thank You Charlie and Company.
Mary says: Glad we could be of help, Keith, first in sustaining you while you were still dreaming the dream and for helping to feed that dream, too. Congrats on your move UP North!! :-)

Amen, Keith of MQT! I, too, wish I could be retired in the UP rather than here in CT, and were it not for the winters UP there and family here, I'd already be there. I echo your thanks to Charlie & company at pasty.com for their herculean efforts to provide a daily glimpse of life in the UP for all of us to experience. There is no better website anywhere!

Keith, may you have safe travels as you return home to the UP! Hope all goes well as you get your new home set up and ready for the kids to go to school in Marquette. And may your new job venture be a blessed and happy one!
So glad you decided to post so we can all enjoy your good news!

Go Kieth! Safe travels to you and your family, and God's blessing on your return home!
Looks like a nice trail to walk. I was not aware that it was there. Next time I am up that way I'll have to scope it out. Thanks for sharing.

Amen to Keith! We're moving to Calumet in 6 weeks and have followed these pictures for years, keeping the dream alive.
Synchronicity - when we came for our house-hunting trip in May I took a virtually identical picture to the top one out of our Super8 hotel room and have used it as my desktop wallpaper ever since.

I use to walk that path at night and just think...while staring at the stars after studying...miss doing that...appreciate what you have around you...
