Bob Gilreath and his wife, Liz, just celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary with a stay at the Big Bay Lighthouse Bed and Breakfast, in the Marquette area. Bob said it is quite the cool place and shares a few photos with us here today, both inside and out.

The first one is my favorite, looking down from the Lighthouse tower at all the buildings on the ground, with a glimpse of Lake Superior, too. I can imagine the quiet UP there, unless it was one of our windy days, then you'd be hearing the wind howling and hearing the waves crashing. Either way, a neat experience.

Then Bob shows us the perspective from the ground, where he ran into some other visitors on there, this Sandhill Crane family with one youngster in tow. I wonder if they were staying near the Lighthouse, too or if they were just passing through that day, checking out the sights.

Inside, we get a glimpse of their room for the night, Bob said it was huge and it looks quite cozy, too. I bet the view from the windows was outstanding and I can only imagine how peaceful an evening there with a fire in the fireplace would be.

Of course they had access to the winding stairs that take you to the top of the Lighthouse tower and while UP there, they not only checked out the view of Lake Superior, but took a look at the working lens, which has been fully updated with LED lights and is completed automated now. No more need for a resident Lighthouse Keeper.

This sure looks like a great get-away and a romantic place to spend your anniversary. Nice choice Bob and Liz, thanks for giving us the grand tour, too.

Happy Anniversary, Liz and Bob!
What a great place to celebrate...it looks like somewhere out of a fairy tale.

In 1911 the "Devil's Dictionary" was published, sort of interesting...an example:
ocean:-"A body of water occupying about two-thirds of a world made for man, who has no gills."

Congratulations, Bob & Liz!

Did you have any of the 'visitors' said to share the lighthouse?

Lighthouses certainly offer the comforts of home.

I like how they captured the baby crane between
the birch tree!
