If you are a thimbleberry jam lover, then today's photos from Paulette Aho are a promise of a good berry harvest to come. Accompanying her snapshots of these plentiful blossoms was this message: "The thimbleberry blossoms are out - anything from full bloom to very small buds. My pictures were taken over the past several days in various "secret" places in Houghton County".
Here again, if you're a thimbleberry jam lover, you can totally relate to Paulette's cryptic explanation of where these blossoms were photographed, since a true thimbleberry picker never reveals where their patch is for fear of someone else beating them to the berries once they grow and ripen. These beauties are just about as hoarded as the morel mushroom crop in May. You can ask all you want, but no one will give up their picking location.
If size of the blossom and number is any indication, it sure looks like this will be a banner year for the Keweenaw thimbleberry season!

When Paulette mentioned 'secret' places i was thinking when the blooms come out people start entering the locations in their GPS!

Thimbleberry jam on toast with a cup of coffee...nothing better!!! We took some pictures of some blooms when we were there a couple of weeks ago. They were just starting then. We usually are able to come up in August, when they're ripe, but that's not going to happen this year. Don't know how we'll go a whole year without thimbleberry jam, but I guess we'll have to. Love these pictures!!

I surely am in the minority here but I never developed a taste for thimbleberries. The berry has very little taste to my tastebuds. It takes 50,000 berries and a bag of sugar to make a pint of jam. Sorry thimbleberry lovers, I'll stick to the raspberries
