For those that are not familiar, first some background information, taken from the Upper Peninsula Honor Flight webpage.

"Honor Flight Network is a non-profit organization created solely to honor America's veterans for all their sacrifices. We transport our heroes to Washington, D.C. to visit and reflect at their memorials. Top priority is given to the senior veterans – World War II survivors, along with those other veterans who may be terminally ill. Korean veterans may also apply, but priority is given to WWII veterans.
TOUR OF HONOR!
Our mission is to fly Upper Peninsula WWII and Korean veterans to see the Memorials that stand in their honor. This “Tour of Honor” is FREE to the veteran. Airfare, meals, deluxe tour bus, t-shirt and other items are provided at NO COST to the veteran.
Today's photos are from Mission X, that just took place a few weeks ago. Frank Jezek, a Korean War Veteran from Ontonagon, was one of the honored Veterans on the flight and he sent me these photos to share, saying that he knows they aren't U.P. Photos, but he added that the Veterans in the photos are all Yoopers! Frank said he wanted to share the photos, to show what a tremendous job the volunteers that organize these flights do. Frank's daughter, Deb, (pictured with him in the second photo) made all the arrangements and then surprised him with the trip. She was also his "Guardian" on the trip, as each Veteran has another person with them the entire trip as an escort (Vets are in white shirts, Guardians are in red shirts). Frank said it was a very moving experience and one he will not forget.

The lady in the last photo with Frank, is one of the media people that accompanied them on the trip. She had just finished interviewing Frank for her radio shows. He said she's the "Jan Tucker" of the southwest U.P. and northeast Wisconsin and does a four hour simulcast on five radio stations every morning. Sorry that I don't have her name or what stations she's affiliated with. Perhaps someone in our viewer audience will be able to identify her for us!

Let me end with this…thank you to all our Veterans for the service they've given and to their families for the sacrifices they've made. What a wonderful way to give back to these brave men and women.

A very nice tribute to show our appreciation!
Happy Father's Day.

If it were not for the Honor Flight organization very few remaining WWII (and now Korean) veterans would ever get the chance to visit their national memorial constructed in 2004 in their honor. If you have the physical ability and financial resources ($500), I wholeheartedly recommend becoming a guardian. It is hugely rewarding.

Thanks for the great pictures ~ Honor Flights are the best! In our area they have had so many flights that most of the WWII veterans who want/can go have enjoyed the trip to DC already. Now most of the flights are filled with Korean veterans. One group set out to raise enough money to sponsor a whole flight (think it is about $70,000). Well, the community responded in a big way and when all the contributions were counted they had enough to sponsor 2 entire flights!
