Barb Bouwkamp snapped today's first photo and sent it in without even thinking about Flag Day. It's amazing how many times things like that happen here on the Pasty Cam. I was thinking it would be nice to have a flag photo for today and BAM…Barb's email appears in my Inbox. I'm always grateful when that happens.
Today we commemorate the day that our nation adopted the Stars and Stripes as our flag, in 1777. Flags should be out flying today because of this day in history, but also at half-staff in honor of the lives that were taken in the attack in Orlando. Please let's not make this a discussion of the tragic event as there are so many different feelings and opinions and this isn’t the place to discuss them, let's just take a moment of silence and honor those lives that have been lost for their families, communities and our country.
The remaining photos from Barb are so peaceful and calming, too. Beautiful apple blossoms at the Township Park at Big Traverse. A serene Rice Lake scene at the end of the day, with so many reflections from the sun and sky. Then lastly, a field of shadows with just the hint of a rainbow above the darkened trees. Beauty in nature…each one of these photos seems perfect for today.

Nice combination of pictures ~ Old Glory for Flag Day and then the evening shadows falling, reminding us of Taps. And in between some beautiful pictures of the flowers ~ thanks Mary!
