Saturday night on WJR Radio in Detroit, we carried on a conversation from Isle Royale, over a new Internet connection with almost 56 miles between the towers. By far it's the longest link we have ever made at Pasty.NET, and seems to be working well. All experimental at this point, but the testers on the island are giving good reports.
The old radar base is owned by Keweenaw County, and serves these days with several forms of communications. The cell towers, the amateur radio relay, ship radio tracking, and Pasty.NET. Actually, Isle Royale is a part of Keweenaw County, so this link in a way completes the loop of the whole county. We are working to get service to as many residents and visitors as possible, with the limited resources available.
Today's pictures are a couple of frames from a video just posted to Facebook. Next weekend we hope to have another report from the Island. By the way, thanks again to everyone who voted for Pasty Central in the "Best Pasty in Michigan" competition sponsored by USA Today. Just so happens I had one of those #1 pasties for lunch, just before I hoped on the ferry at Rock Harbor and returned to Copper Harbor. Yum!
