Danielle Adams made a hike around Presque Isle Park in Marquette and snapped some pictures along the way. Having never done so myself, I was amazed at how similar the shoreline seems to the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, which stands to reason, since they're both on the same shoreline of Lake Superior and not all that far away from each other.
The first photo was snapped from "Prayer Rock" and you can see the breakwall that juts out from Presque Isle from this vantage point. The second photo is actually "Prayer Rock" itself. I don't know the background for the name of this spot, so if anyone can fill us in on that, please chime right in!
The clarity of Lake Superior never ceases to amaze me, that even standing this high UP over the Big Lake, you can still see the rocks in the depths of her waters below. When you live here UP North, surrounded by this beautiful Great Lake, you sometimes forget the majesty that is right here before us. Then someone like Danielle shares the beauty in her photos and we are once again reminded what a gem we have right here in our own back yard.
If you'd like more information about Presque Isle Park, there's an interesting write-up about it on the Marquette City webpage. It gives you a bit of history of the Park, along with information about what you'll find there. You can get there by clicking the following link: Presque Isle Park.

Clarity, detail and color, love it...thanks for the outing! I believe the original prayer was: "Feets, don't fail me now!"

Beautiful photos Danielle as always! Been there many times myself, wouldn't mind being there now!
Not complaining tho, this morning finds me waking up in the Soo to call on the hospital here and then work my way back down state. Trying to convince my company to give me the rest of the U.P., the western end is covered out of Chicago, and the rep doesn't like going to the U.P.(says it's too far) and I know she doesn't have the contacts that I do up here! Makes sense right?
LOL Alex, True, that would be quite the tumble for sure!!

Awesome photos as always, Danielle. We were hoping to go there in August, but my hubby is having a total knee replacement at the end of June, so we've postponed our Munising/Marquette trip until next summer. We're bummed but it can't be helped. So thanks for sharing these awesome pictures with us. This is the next best thing to being there.

I agree, those are some spectacular shots Danielle; great job! Nat and I will be in Marquette this summer briefly so I'm hoping to say hi while we're there.
If I wasn't at work, I'd go into more detail about the rocks at Presque Isle because they are really fascinating. I'll post about them when I get to my laptop this afternoon.
And take care of yourself Mr. Deb! Having had knee surgery for a different reason, I can totally relate.

Good luck Mr Deb with your knee surgery next month!
By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 - 03:26 pm:
Mr. Deb, do your rehab faithfully. Before my surgery my surgeon said, "This surgery is only 20% my job; the other 80% is yours -- do your rehab!" So every day I told myself I was doing my 80% and it really paid off! Two years later and that knee is GREAT!
Love the photos, Danielle. Presque Isle was one of my favorite places when I lived in the UP.

What good people my PastyCam friends are. Uncle Chuck--for sure you would be the best to cover the U.P. Hang tough, Mr. Deb. Do the rehab, not just the first year. Progress can still be made years later. Never give up. I know you won't, you have Sisu. I'm still working on improving my hip function five years later. Capt. Paul, hope you and Dr. Nat have a good time in the U.P.
Thank you, Danielle, for the wonderful pictures of my home town. I am glad to be seeing it first hand again.
Home is where the heart is, and mine is and has always been in the U.P.

So, Presque Isle Park has several interesting geologic features throughout the area. First, it has great exposures of the Jacobsville Sandstone that overlies a serpentinised peridotite with its origins in Earth's upper crust/mantle. The park has glacial features in the form of post glacial wave-cut bluffs and erratics. There is also another very interesting feature in the park, a Mesoproterozoic paleosol (buried soil). In a nutshell, the rocks are from deep in the Earth's interior and are exactly what you would expect to have found at the bottom of the ocean about a billion years ago. How neat is that to have it in your backyard??

Good luck with the knee replacement Ron, you sure have been through a whole lot!! Wishing you all the success in the world, and a speedy recovery, you'll be break dancing again before you know it!
I grew up in Marquette and I have spent a lot of time at the "Island" as it is known to locals. I've never heard of "prayer rock" That must be something some troll named it. We always called it "Pulpit Rock". But no matter what you call it the "island" is a great place.

Thanks for the geology lesson, Capt. Paul. I'll think of it as we hang around Presque Isle this afternoon following lunch at the Vierling. Love their whitefish chowder!

Thanks for the well wishes everyone! Uncle Chuck, the "break" in break dancing took on a whole new meaning the last few years! Great pictures Danielle, wish we were still going. Maybe this fall... Have a great day everyone! Mr. Deb
