Danielle Adams made a hike around Presque Isle Park in Marquette and snapped some pictures along the way. Having never done so myself, I was amazed at how similar the shoreline seems to the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, which stands to reason, since they're both on the same shoreline of Lake Superior and not all that far away from each other. What good people my PastyCam friends are. Uncle Chuck--for sure By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 - 08:42 pm: So, Presque Isle Park has several interesting geologic features throughout the area. First, it has great exposures of the Jacobsville Sandstone that overlies a serpentinised peridotite with its origins in Earth's upper crust/mantle. The park has glacial features in the form of post glacial wave-cut bluffs and erratics. There is also another very interesting feature in the park, a Mesoproterozoic paleosol (buried soil). In a nutshell, the rocks are from deep in the Earth's interior and are exactly what you would expect to have found at the bottom of the ocean about a billion years ago. How neat is that to have it in your backyard?? By Uncle Chuck (Unclechuck) on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 - 09:39 pm:
