Two of our Pasty Cam photographers have been out searching for Morel mushrooms and both were rewarded with some wonderful examples of these yummy delicacies found here UP North.
The first three shots come from Fred Koski. You can see how big the Morels he found were by the comparison of his hand next to the mushroom in the first shot. Fred said these were some of the biggest "black" morels he's ever seen.
The last three photos were snapped by Melanie Hakala Rossi who said she was surprised to have found any, let alone a basket full of these sometimes elusive mushrooms. Normally you find them sprouted the day after a rainfall, when the sun is shining and warming things up. Melanie said these were found while a few snowflakes were flying in the air and the cold air was freezing her fingers.
Once you taste these mushrooms, though, you'll be hooked and you'll be hunting morels, too!

MMMMM!!!! Morels and freshly caught brook trout. An unsurpassable meal fit for Royalty and Yoopers. My mouth is watering as I sit here dreaming. It's been a long time, much to long. Great pictures, thanks folks.

Awesome! We've been finding a few down here but are waiting for warmer weather to really get them going. It's great fun to hunt them, and even more fun when you score. Like finding a cache of doubloons. Thanks Fred and Melanie!

My hubby picked some last Friday, I believe. He got quite a few of them. Needless to say, he was a happy camper. Nice catch!!

My father in law used to tell stories of his Morel hunting days. He never ate them though. He was never quite sure of his identification skills and always ended giving them away or throwing them out.

D.A., I won't eat them though I love mushrooms. They scare me.

Last year my local grocery store had some in the home grown section. Even though they were quite expensive I tried them. I wasn't that impressed. Maybe they were not fresh enough.

Oh Duane, that made me drool. Royalty never gets anything that good, but Yoopers do for sure.

Admittedly not an UP town, but while you're voting for Pasty Cam you might consider voting for Ludington too:
