Freighter pictures are always a big hit here on the Pasty Cam, but today's shots from Danielle Adams are extra appealing due to the time of day they were taken. With the sun setting, coloring the sky around the Hon. James L. Oberstar in the first photo, it adds to the mystique of these Lake Superior sailing vessels. That's the Oberstar in the second photo, also.
The bottom two pictures were taken at dusk there in the Marquette Harbor, as the Sam Laud came into port to load under the lights of the ore dock. There's something almost magical about these big boats tied up at the dock in the dark, with the lights reflecting off the water around them. It's almost like they're sparkling in the Harbor.

"Pink Sky At Night, Sailors Delight" Or so the saying goes. I like the pictures of the boats when they are all lit up in the night time. For the lack of a better descriptive word, they look cool.

Two memories were brought to mind on viewing these pictures.
1: As kids we used to dive off the light house in the first picture. A regular event at the "breakwaters". 2: I had some apple pie onboard a freighter all lit up at the C & H coal dock in Lake Linden/Hubble when my dad was the electrician foreman for C & H back in the 50s.

It's hard to beat freighters for popularity on PastyCam. Thanks, Danielle.

That is such a great place to watch freighters! You can stand on the shore in front of them when they are coming in and they are heading right for you.
