Seems like yesterday, we were having some fun on Brockway Mountain, sharing the fresh air and beauty of the Keweenaw with my brother Dave and his wife Paula (the couple in red) and their young Libby and Daniel. The Michigan characters in the middle are my wife Edie and our Jonathan and Becky (apparently about to take flight).

Fast forward a decade to the second picture. Edie still has on her signature headband, but Jonathan dwarfs her, posing with the flowers at Keweenaw Mountain Lodge. Still another decade+ later, Becky is all grown up, still taking flight (on skates). In the early 2000's you may recall Edie and I traveling to Anchorage, Alaska, to watch the MTU Husky Women's team in the national finals, with Becky as the goalie.

Edie used to say, 'they just grow up too fast'. It's our first Mother's Day without her, and the video is something she would have echoed: Slow Down. (Especially the part that says, "I am your biggest fan") What a privilege our family has had the past 3 decades to live our lives in Michigan's beautiful Upper Peninsula.

I happen to be away from the U.P. this morning, spending Mother's Day with my Mom in Alabama. It's good to have the Pasty Cam to stay in touch.

Make it a special day for the Moms in your life. And if you are one: Happy Mother's Day :o)

Have a good week :o)

Happy Mother's Day to everybody out there in pasty
land. Charlie, I thought that was you in the 1st
photo. You guys look alike. I hope you're having a
great day with your mom in Alabama. I loved every
single picture today. And the video was absolutely
perfect for the day. It brought tears to my eyes
thinking about my own children and now grandchildren
and how fast they've all grown up. Enjoy life!!
It's far too short!!

Happy Mother's Day to all the Mothers and Godmothers out there in Pasty land!

Take the time while they are here to visit and enjoy their company........ and ask about the old family stories. You'll wish you has in years to come!

Deb, i did the same thing........ i thought that was Charlie too!

By Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Sunday, May 8, 2016 - 05:26 pm:

Me three...I thought that was Charlie in the top photo also. You sure can tell you're brothers. Happy Mother's Day to your Mom, Charlie and all the Mom's in our viewership and especially to Edie and my Mom in Heaven. I hope they know each other UP there, maybe they can give one another a hug from us down here. Thanks for sharing the memories and video, Charlie! I need a tissue now...

That is a wonderful video. Happy Mother's day to all you Mothers reading this and my best wishes to all of you that celebrated today with your Mother.

But especially I offer my thoughts and prayers to those of you whose Mother left this world too soon. A parent losing a child must be the greatest family loss but a child prematurely losing their Mother or Father is a close second.

Converting a birthday from a day of celebration of life into one of both celebration and remembrance I think is an easier task than a day like Mothers Day.

By Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Sunday, May 8, 2016 - 10:44 pm:

Thanks, Mary, and everybody else for your comments. I passed along all the greetings to my Mom, whom you may recall a few years back appeared on the Pasty Cam. It was down at Calumet Waterworks Park, where she was playing patty cakes with the butterflies :o)

Mama
We had a wonderful day down here in Northern Alabama, where they celebrate "Decoration Day" at the cemeteries, with a big reunion and plenty of food.

As for the resemblance with my brother, Mama agrees, pointing out that we both inherited her father's hairline. Both Dave and my sister Linda called a short time ago to wish her Happy Mother's Day.

Charlie, seeing the 2 of you side by side like that,
it's very apparent how alike you really are. But I
thought so anyway. Nice picture of your mom, also.
I'm glad you had a nice day. It has to be tough for
you right now so I continue to pray for all of you.
