Here UP North, Spring has finally arrived to stay with warmer temperatures and just a patch or two of snow to be found here and there. With that, the birds that call the U.P. home for the warmer months are returning, too. If you're outdoors near a field or open area, you can hear the Sandhill Cranes either overhead landing like the first photo from Fred Koski or already landed and "talking" up a storm.
Fred was busy being patient recently in the Big Bay area, so he could capture some amazing shots of birds in action to share with us all. The Bald Eagle in his second photo, looks like it may have spotted something that he could snatch for dinner and is gliding in to grab whatever it might be.
The same for the Northen Harrier in the last three photos, it seems to be gliding along, almost flying sideways as it scans the ground for prey, looking from side to side to take in the entire area. The last photo is my favorite though. I love the way Fred has suspended this predator in mid-air, with wings extended and his feet dangling below. Truly amazing glimpses into the actions of these beautiful birds.

The sandhill cranes are a noisy bunch. I enjoy the pictures of the raptors.

Thanks for sharing Mary! The Northern Harriers (marsh hawk) are fun to watch as they glide over the top of the grass looking for something to pounce on.
