This afternoon Edie will be laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery.

Eight years ago she brought me her yellow legal pad that she always used to jot down notes for our 'Day in History' or 'Pasty Cameos'. She had researched a question that had come up here in Eagle River, about the wooden arch at the Cemetery. The arch had been removed when the fence was redone. I recall she wasn't happy about it at the time, because it was not historically correct. A photo she had found, dated 1908, showed the arch in place, looking old even back then. We included that slide in the Evergreen Cemetery Cameo.

Eventually Edie agreed that the new fence and sign were ok, and probably better with the arch gone, because "semi-trucks and birds wouldn't run into it". She sure had a wonderful sense of humor.

Thanks to all who posted condolences, many which, I must say, I read through tears. Each passing day I'm feeling sorrow give way to joy, because of our 44 years together, the majority of those spent in the one place on earth we've loved the most, and knowing that she, "fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith."

Edie was a good and faithful servant of her Lord; her shining joy being a testimony to her steadfast faith in Him. I'm sure many will be in His kingdom as a result of her life.

And your right, each passing day does get better as sorrow gives way to warm, happy memories. I know Edie would want you to carry on with your life, for your sake and the sake your children and grandchildren.

Charlie, I must admit that I read your post through
tears also. I wish I'd have gotten to know her, but
I got to know her through pasty, and that will have
to be enough.

We both have family at Evergreen Cemetery. I will pay my respects
to your dear Edie when I visit our Matt on Memorial Day weekend.

Charlie, I have not been on pasty.com for almost a year, so I was very sorry to read of your wife's passing when I logged on tonight. As many have said, I feel like I knew her. I send my sympathies as a Yooper and as a DAR daughter. Peace be with you.

I can picture her in the Kingdom that has now come for her--
smiling, whole of body and free from pain. How blessed you and
Edie were to have 44 earthly years together with eternity yet to
