Illa Garver sent in the first photo of a recently returned hawk, spotted sitting on the parking deck in Houghton, watching the world go by. So many birds are returning to the Keweenaw now, it's nice to see them back again.

Meanwhile back in Baraga at the Donna MacIntosh Critter Café, there have been some more unusual visitors. Unusual in the fact that they aren't your usual run of the mill bird feeder critters. The turkeys are back pecking away at the ground, finding seed and whatever else Donna puts out for them and her reward is a one of the turkeys struttin' his stuff, all puffed out with pride.

Then of course the seagulls... in all the years of feeding birds, I don't think I've ever had a seagull at my feeders, so this is a first for me to see. They must have heard through word of beak, that Donna has good grub.

And the last photo, a kind of stinky visitor who comes in the dark of night to Donna's café. She said there were actually three of them there at once. Skunks on the move are another sure sign that it really is spring here UP North. Just don't go out there and try to pet these guys, Donna! ;->

That's quite a variety of critters that you are feeding. I used to think seagulls were a cool bird until I got to see them on an every day basis. Now I really dislike them. They are noisy, dirty, greedy thieves.
Back in my youth there was only one kind of hawk and that was a chickenhawk. That is what they all were called.

If our first picture is a Coopers Hawk, you usually won't see many other birds around, might wind up as a snack!

Always like critter pictures.

I just took a pic of one of these hawks the other day. First one I've seen here in Cornell. Couldn't find it in my bird book. And yes, he was snacking on a black starling, of which there are many here.

Some migrating fowl may get confused this weekend
and all you solar weather watchers are advised to
stay up tonight for a potential illumination due
to the expected Coronal Mass Ejections.

i.e. There are "holes" in the Sun and the Northern
Lights should be good this weekend.
