Seeing the first Robin of the year may not be a big deal for many of you that live in the southern parts of the country, but for us Yoopers here in the Keweenaw it's more important than Groundhog Day, since Phil seeing his shadow doesn't mean much to us, as we end up with six weeks or more of winter no matter what. But seeing that first Robin, like Patty Rheault did this past Saturday, that's a sure sign that Spring is either here or not very far off.

We'll still get a few inches of snow here and there, into April even, but seeing that first Robin gives us hope that it won't be long and we'll be wallowing in mud soon, then the bugs start, then it will be summer! Yay for Robins in the U.P.!

Nice! Such an early spring for all of us, although
the robin seems to be dialed into the calendar
really well!

The Robins return and the opening of the Soo Locks soon are both signs of spring.

We have had Robins since January so I watch for
the Red Wing Blackbirds which showed up 2 weeks
ago, and tornado watches/warnings which could be
posted tomorrow......ugh!

Great harbinger of warmer days to come. Thanks for sharing and giving us hope. I don't know if I live on the wrong side of the tracks or what but I don't usually see a robin until May.

We've had Robins for a couple of weeks now, and the first Batman showed up yesterday.

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 - 03:21 pm:

I don't think I've seen any where I live, yet.

Hi
For my mom & I, a sign of spring is hearing the frogs-spring peepers, chorus frogs, & wood frogs.

Nice Pics!

No, Alex... that was actually a green hornet!

Haven't seen a Robin here in Cornell yet. But the other day I heard some Sand Hill Cranes on the other side of the 40. Was too foggy to be actually seeing them. We've had 3 or 4 kinds of woodpeckers, nuthatches, finches, chickadees, red polls, sparrows and doves all winter. Sure do enjoy watching the 'piku lintu'.

'… piku lintu'

"pikkulintu" perhaps?

Hei Frnash,
You got that right, Pilgrim! Kiitos.
