Here in the Copper Country, winter isn't over 'til the last snowflake falls. And that just isn't happening anytime soon I guess, since we were pelted with a dandy St. Patrick's Day storm that started Wednesday and went on into Thursday. Schools were closed, power was out for hours and in some cases a full day, plus. The snowfall amounts ranged from 8 inches to 18.5 inches around the area and you can see in today's photos that it really coated everything in sight. It was actually a heavy snow with high wind gusts besides, so the power outages were caused by both downed trees and fallen power lines.
Today's photos are compliments of three separate photographers. The first two are from Lori Raffaelli Jokela who snapped them on the Rice Lake Road, outside of Lake Linden. The heavy snow turned our world quite white, making it beautiful, but also making extra work for many folks.
The next two photos were snapped by Linda Schneller in her Bootjack yard. Linda was getting all set for Easter with colorful plastic eggs hanging from a tree, but then the snow came and covered it all up, so that the eggs were just peeking out of that white blanket. One of Linda's friends thought they were Christmas lights at first.
With the final pair of shots that Judy Byykkonen took of the Traprock River out on the Valley Road outside of Lake Linden, you can see that all the added white, really makes our scenery seem black and white. It's pretty neat when you think of it, that these are really color photos, but they appear to be with no colors at all, just black and white.
You have to admit, even if you don't like the snow, that it sure is pretty and it really does make everything look cleaner and brighter again. I'm still ready for it to be Spring again soon, though.

I'm with Deb, these are beautiful pix! If this was October, I'd be bummed out, but Spring is just around the corner. :-)

I would like to say those are beautiful pictures but I just can't bring myself to say it.

"Snowflake falls": That sure would be a neat name for a little Copper Country town, like Bullwinkle's "Frostbite Falls"!

Hei Frnash, I think so,too. Not much mention of St. Urho lately. Google St. Urho to get caught up on it, (Those who don't know of him.) :o) Used to play at those Finnish dances with Kilpela and Friends. Vappu dance (May day)Juhanus (Mid-summer Day), not to mention many Finn Fests in the US and Canada.

Man, it's been a while since I had time to log onto Pasty. I would have thought by now there would be bare ground, but apparently not so. I remember well, it could snow big time even in April! However it would melt fast. I remember that longing for good ol' spring then summer, and BAM! another snowstorm. Even though snow can be beautiful, after several months, enough is enough.

Yes it does, Janie. And when you got spring blizzards, you always knew it wouldn't last long. But you'd still get to see the beauty of it.

An old saying was, "The new snow this time of year eats the old snow." No snow left here in Cornell. Temps in the 50s and 60s took care of that the last couple weeks. I imagine we'll get more before it's all done.
