Ashlee Harvey and her family made a visit to Fort Wilkins in Copper Harbor that required boots and winter wear, but the best part of that is there weren't any pesky bugs to ruin their adventure. You can see from her photos that there are spots that are already beginning to bare, like on Fanny Hooe's edge, around the cannon and one of the porches that must get the sun for most of the day. Other spots are still snow covered and drifted, like the other porch photos. It even looks like there are small pools of water forming on top the ice on Lake Fanny Hooe, all indications that spring is on its way, we just can't be certain exactly when it will arrive here UP North.
None of the buildings at the Fort are open during the winter months, but that didn't stop Ashley's boys from having a good time. They trekked through the snow on the porches, peeking in the windows, I'm sure. And they even threw snowballs onto the ice on Lake Fanny Hooe. I'm guessing they were either having a contest to see who could throw theirs the farthest or perhaps they were trying to break the ice. Whichever it was, they were outside enjoying the fresh Copper Country air. It doesn't get much better than that!
