My family always tries to get out to Brunette Park several times a summer for a picnic and swim. When it's stifling hot in town, it's always cooler there on the shores of Lake Superior. It's even cooler in today's photos snapped by Joy Ziemnick. As many times as I've been here, I don't think it's ever been in the winter months, so seeing our favorite little park covered in ice is really a treat.
Joy managed to capture the beauty of the Big Lake there, with the coldness of the ice still coating Brunette's shoreline. Then she adds a few interesting shots…the ice cap mushroom amongst the Superior rocks just under the water's surface. And did you spot the diamonds floating on top the water in the fifth shot? There is one especially, that is just glowing!
Then Joy's last photo gives us a glimpse of summer again, with no ice or snow in sight, just the lines and swirls of the sandstone that makes up this Lake Superior shoreline. Just a few more months and we'll be heading out there for picnics again!

Spring might be early this year in the Yoop, or will it?

All beautiful photos, but the last one, Superior sandstone is simply Superior! It is really something looking at snowy pictures with 70* temps here in eastern Iowa.

My daughter and I also loved summers at Brunette Park. The sandstone ledges are gorgeous. Great pics. It is also lovely in the winter--and much more open than Lake Superior"s other side.

Great pictures today of some neat looking ice formations. The nicest thing about a visit to the beach in the winter is there are no flies.

I do not know this park at all. I will have to investigate it this summer. It certainly is beautiful in the winter months.

My wife says it looks like a ice pasty complete with crimp.
