Marilynn Bachorik takes us for a winter look at Miners Castle, part of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. She said it was a "brilliantly sunny day", so they set out to see what the mild winter was looking like in the Munising area. She noted that they were able to drive right out to Miners Castle, unlike other years when there was a hike in to get photos. Lake Superior doesn't look too icy there either, but there are some ice floes here and there.
The next stop was at the Munising Falls. Here again, Marilynn found a difference from other years they visited this spot. She said usually the falls have been frozen solid, with maybe a glimpse of water rushing behind the ice, but this year it has broken off several times and there was even a large gap. It seems the water has been running high there all winter.
Both Wagner Falls and Au Train Falls are running high, too. Marilynn said that other years, the path into Wagner Falls has been too treacherous to negotiate, but this year it was an easy walk in for them.
If the lack of ice on the Big Lake and the "running high" of the falls already here UP North are any indication, it looks like we could possibly have an early spring. I say that with "tongue in cheek", so to speak though, since we had school closings early this week due to high winds and blowing snow, plus the temperatures were quite frigid, but that's supposed to change now for the weekend again. After the chilly temps, 40° and 50° will feel downright tropical!

Great pictures! I'm looking forward to August, when
we got back there. I think I'll enjoy visiting
better in the summer than winter, for sure. Love
the sandy beaches there.
Thanks for sharing these!
