Joe Kirkish was showing a professional photographer from California around here in the Keweenaw and they made a stop at Eagle River, where the ice had really built up. While there, Joe spotted Mike Sturos and his family out on ice a couple hundred feet from shore, with bigger icebergs in the distance at the water's edge.
When Joe spoke with Mike and his family, they said they were trying to find flat sections of ice to break off and throw into a crack in the ice. Along with their mission to fill the crevice, there were lots of smiles as the kids were slip sliding around out there on the ice. The children were having great fun, Joe's friend, the photographer from California, was out way beyond them shooting Lake Superior and through it all, Joe was freezing there on the ice and couldn't wait to get back to his warm car! A Different perspective for different folks and Lake Superior creates each one... fun times, beauty to behold and the need to be safe and warm.

I remember doing this with my kids. Our dog would have no part of it!
