Even with the big dump of snow we had a week ago, we're still a bit behind what we normally have on the ground this time of year in the Keweenaw. For the deer that visit George and Paulette Beveridge's feeding station, that's a good thing. If the snow were deeper, they'd have already herded up in the deer yards, where the Sportsmen's Clubs feed them to help get them through the long winters here UP North.
George still has company coming in for dinner, though and you can see in these shots, there are boys and girls there for their daily meal. That looks to be a 6 point buck, unless there are a couple tines I'm not seeing. It's nice to see he's in good shape, too, since the bucks are crucial to building up the deer population for the coming year. This one is a survivor from both the hunt and the winter so far!

Meal for a buck...where do I sign UP? Looks like a nice buffet table.

After some tuff years this milder Winter and the feeding program may help the herd rebound. They look to be in good shape for now!

Always so fun watching the deer. One of my favorite things at my mom's house UP there.
Love the eagle pictures and the snowy road also. So many nice wintry pictures.

Seeing 2011's closeup of the eagle (although it was actually just a small snippet from January 26, 2011) reminds me of this "seagull on afterburner", spotted as it was departing George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in Houston, TX o/a November 2010:
FRNash - that is not a seagull - it's a heron/egret type of sea bird. Nevertheless, that's a hilarious shot!! What timing!
