It is not located in Hancock. It not located in the Keweenaw. Not even in Michigan. It is located in Park City UT. The building, now the Miners Hospital Community Center, is listed on the National Register on Historic Places. http://parkcitylibrary.org/about/library-history/

It has some similarity to the old St. Joseph's Hospital in Hancock, from the same period.
This was the forerunner of the current U.P. Health System Portage Hospital where my wife Edie is having an extended stay, actually next door at PortagePointe. As I mentioned last week, she had a mild stroke and is regaining strength, and continuing to see improvement in her eyesight. Our thanks to the staff of PortagePointe for their hospitality, and to our Pasty Cam friends for your encouragement and prayers.

Thank you for the update, Charlie. Our prayers continue for you and Edie and the good folks providing her care.
Have a blessed week, Pasty Camers!

Wow, did I ever do a double-take on the photo! I recognized it right away as familiar, and it made me wonder if there was a standard design for miner's hospitals that was used nationwide. john mich got it right -- it's the Miner's Hospital in Park City Utah. In one of its past lives, it was an oddball youth hostel named The Palace Flophouse. I stayed there for a week in the spring of 1975 with my high school ski club.It was right near the base of the Park City ski area, so it was at least convenient. Luxurious? Not so much. What fun to see it here on the Pasty Cam!

I've been wondering about Edie. Sorry to hear she's still laid up. I've heard some great things about Portage Point, though. My mom is on the waiting list there, but whenever there's an opening, she says she's not ready. I'm glad Edie's getting the care she needs and will pray that she gets to come home soon.

I'm so glad for the update on Edie. Thanks, Charlie. I've had relatives at Portage Point too and have heard only favorable comments.

Thanks, Greta!! I understand wanting to stay in your own home, but I wish she'd worry a little more about her safety.

I hear you, Deb. It can sure be scary sometimes. Especially from a distance.

Deb, my heart feels for you and your mother. I also understand her wanting to stay home. I understand her feeling brave one moment saying she'll go, but when the time comes it's just too much. So hard.
