If you live here in the Keweenaw, you spent Saturday and Sunday pushing, pulling, blowing and moving snow, as we had a significant snow event which dropped not inches, but feet of snow on us. Up to now, we've had a pretty quiet winter, with little snow, but in some places over the weekend, several feet blanketed the ground in a short period of time.
Today's photos begin with Barb Bouwkamp out on her street in Laurium, checking the amount of snow on the road and around the homestead at that point on Saturday night and it was still coming down at a rate of 1 - 3 inches an hour. That translates into lots of work for the snow removal folks.
The bottom three photos come from Kathy Archambeau on the opposite end of Houghton County, over in the Chassell area. When she took these pictures Sunday morning, the official measurement at her home was 14". That's her hubby, Curtis out there snow blowing their driveway. The second of her photos, shows their path from the garage to the house after Curtis had made his first path through, to open it up. In the bottom photo you can see the driveway is for the most part cleared, but the steps and deck are still waiting to be cleaned off.
If you love snow and are looking for skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing or any other snow adventures, it's a good time to come UP North!

Hi Mary:
Glad to read a post from you so soon after the Sunday note from Charlie. You must be recovering quickly which is a very good sign. I hope that you're now on the mend.
JT
Mary says: Thank you, JT, but it's actually Charlie's better half, Edie, that is having the health issues. Please continue to keep her (and Charlie) in your prayers.

Wow...and I thought the 2-3 inches we had last week in SE-MI was rough.

Well it is about time you got some snow but did you have to send the cold this far south! I will have to admit that I miss the white stuff but am glad to be able to remove mine with a broom. As I get older the thought of moving all that crystallized water around leaves me COLD.

Hi Mary:
I'm very appreciative that you corrected me. I sincerely do hope and pray that Edie will recover quickly.
Great pictures of an abundance of snow and the cleaning up process. OK Heikki, that's enough now.

Hi I'd like to get--over a civilized timeframe--3 or 4 more inches here in SE Michigan, and then temperatures stay in the 20's until after at least one weekend, so I can get out on my cross-country skiis. Right now it's supposed to stay in the teens during the day and colder at night today and tomorrow (and you shold hear the TV weather people yowling about windchills) but then get up to the 30s's by the weekend.
Salute to the sisu of folks that are more closely downwind of the lake effect.

Love the sun setting or rising over the train tracks. Also love the picture of 9th St, where I can see my grandparent's old house. Memories.....

I love the first three photos - snow storm in the night, roads filling in, loneliness and silence. I can smell it. Beautiful! The frost on the window with the sunrise - 2006 in this review is a shot I took on a very frigid morning. Even as an adult I'd go out and play in the storms. Only thing is, winter lasted too long.
