Today's photos were taken by Darlene Vuorinen, but it was her husband Urpo who sent them to my inbox, along with this note describing what the pictures were:

Quote:

For hundreds of years, what had always been thought to be a myth and spoken of very little to avoid ridicule has been proven to be true. The attached pictures provide irrefutable proof of the existence of a Prehistoric Lake Superior Ice Turtle.

Using considerable stealth, Darlene was able to take pictures of it as it came ashore to bury its frozen eggs.
Thirty years ago was the last time there were rumors of a sighting of a PLSIT. It was also a time of high water and shore erosion, but cold weather froze the shore in the winter.

We worry that the climate change may have doomed her young this winter.

Amazing photos Darlene captured and you're seeing them first here on the Pasty Cam.

Cute pictures with a cute story to go along with
it.

I'll bet El Niņo winds caused the creature to come to the top of
Lake Superior due to the change in water temperatures
caused by the warmer water currents. This may be a corallary
to the appearance of poisonous snakes from South America
showing up on the beaches in San Diego due to El Niņo. Who
knows?

Oh how BEAUTIFUL! I KNEW there really was an ice
turtle!

Interesting theory, it could also be increased sunspot activity.

Superior Ice Turtles".

By Duane P. (Islandman43) on Thursday, January 14, 2016 - 01:08 pm:

The last time I visited with my friend Heikki Lunta he showed me one of those that was in a big aquarium that he kept in his Gramma's summer kitchen. He told me he had two of them at one time but one of them was carrying eggs and they eventually hatched. He said their was a couple dozen young ones that resembled kindling wood. There was to many for his aquarium so he released Mother and the young ones into Lake Superior. He believed deeply in the "from whence they emanated they shall return" life cycle.

By Joseph Myers (Jpmyers) on Thursday, January 14, 2016 - 03:12 pm:

During times of warmer than normal winters, these turtles work
to haul ice blocks from Canada in order to help stabilize the
weather patterns. Normally this work happens at night so only
very tired or typsy humans see them and their stories are not
believed by friends, family or the media. Global warming has
overworked these creatures and destroyed much of their
habitat. This poor turtle appears to have beached itself, unable
to unburden its' ice load.

And, in spite of the danger fraught journey just completed, sporting a broad grin.

Call me crazy, but all I see is a piece of driftwood with some ice chunks on top..... ;-)

By Greta Jones (Urbanescapees) on Thursday, January 14, 2016 - 08:00 pm:

Capt. Paul - I agree, I'm with you.
Lots of nice lake pictures in the review.

...I'll never order turtle soup again, but I'll still eat the crackers.
