'Remember Pearl Harbor'.

By Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Monday, December 7, 2015 - 10:03 pm:

Will the real Keweenaw scene please stand up! Yes, that's right, one of these photos is what it looked liked from Kathy Archambeau's porch on December 5th, 2009 and the other is December 5th, 2015. The third photo is a hint as to which one is the current shot…that's a dandelion that Kathy's husband Curtis picked for her today from their yard.

Yes, if you guessed the snowless photo as current, you're absolutely right! We're having a strange winter so far, but when you check your Pasty Cam 2015 calendar, it says that winter actually starts on Dec. 22nd, so maybe Mother Nature is just trying to follow the dates on the calendar this year.

Speaking of the Pasty Cam calendar... the 2016 edition arrived today, so make sure you get yours ordered in time for Christmas giving! Order here: 2016 Pasty Cam Calendar

Can you say "El Nino"?? ;-)

By Greta Jones (Urbanescapees) on Monday, December 7, 2015 - 10:54 pm:

A snow-less Christmas?? Unthinkable! Let's hope not.

By Duane P. (Islandman43) on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 - 12:40 am:

From a 100 percent selfish point of view with absolutely no consideration for other peoples wishes and desires I can gleefully say El Nino.:)

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 - 04:23 am:

El Nino is causing the mild weather. Hopefully, we'll still have a white Christmas.

By Paul Roberts (Grizzlyadams) on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 - 07:16 am:

Same thing here in OH. I suppose I shouldn't be
surprised. Of course the mild temps aren't
helping the sales of the cold weather clothing at
all. Personally I can't stand this El Nino.
However, those around me love it. It's winter.
There should be snow on the ground.

38 here in northeast GA, 36 there -- weird!

By Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 - 08:11 am:

If you tried the calendar purchase link above,
try again, it's working now.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 - 08:20 am:

Boy....what a difference six years makes. But then again, you all probably had snow UP there this time last year. Don't give up, it's coming...sooner or later.;)

Mary, sorry about the early post from yesterday, I thought I had accessed What'sUP.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 - 08:25 am:

You just never know, do you? We had no snow last
year in December and Christmas still came :-) I'm
sure it will this year, too.

Love that dandelion!

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 - 09:26 am:

lol, Deb.;>

By Peg Hardt (Almostup) on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 - 09:28 am:

The first day of winter isn't until December 22.
Don't complain about El Nino too much or we will
really get dumped on. :o)

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 - 09:30 am:

I have not fed one bale of hay yet to the horses. No snow makes for great pasture feeding!

By George L. (Yooperinct) on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 - 09:39 am:

It's forecast to be 60 degrees next Sunday here in CT. People will be out in shorts and t-shirts to cut down their Christmas tree! But we know how Mother Nature works.....everything evens out in time. I think come next month we'll be wishing that some of this warm weather would make a comeback.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 - 10:42 am:

Just checked John Dee's archives and he reported that they had 18" of snow on the 7th of Dec. last year.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 - 10:48 am:

So as not to be misunderstood, that was 18 inches of snow pack - not that 18" fell on that date.;>

By Kathyrn Laughlin (Kathyl) on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 - 10:54 am:

Hi
I like snow in the winter, and Christmas is one of the few times other people feel the same. The Christmas lights look better in the snow. I will say getting 14 inches in one storm, as happened downstate this November, was not entertaining.

I agree that December 21 is the winter solstice, but calling that the start of winter doesn't match up with reality in many northern areas. My celtic ancestors had winter starting at Halloween; December 21 was midwinter. The Christmas carol (In the Bleak Midwinter) agrees.

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 - 03:28 pm:

Peg, I did some checking, and Winter officially begins at 11:48 PM, December 21.
