Love it when a plan comes together. So it was with the venture at Central Mine that began on this day in 1854. These are a couple of the signs you see around the neighborhood there today. The top one is from the Keweenaw County Road Commission, and the second one from the Keweenaw County Historical Society. You'll find a very nice visitor center there today.

It was another summer-like day here in Eagle River, as the snow has been slower in coming this year. For those who have inquired, we will be posting the holiday season pasty delivery schedule over the next couple of days. Hard to believe we're less than 6 weeks away from Christmas.

Ditto what Alex said. Our autumn has been
outstanding!! But it's raining today and as the
week goes on, it's supposed to continue getting
colder.

You mentioned the pasties, Charlie. How about the
pasty calendar?? Is that finished??

I have always enjoyed exploring Central and have frequently
attended the Methodist service there in July and enjoyed the
teas put on by the Keweenaw Kernewek. Recently I
discovered that one of my ancestors was the first man killed
in the mine. He was Henry Nicholls, a miner from Gulval,
Cornwall, who first went to Mineral Point, WI, and then came
to Central.
