When Deb and Ron Simons make the trip to the Keweenaw for a visit, their favorite rest stop along the route is this one on the border of Michigan and Wisconsin, in Ironwood. It might be Deb's favorite because it means she's that much closer to her home town growing UP, because she says it's not her favorite on the way back to Minnesota.
It does look like a nice place to take a break from driving, especially during the autumn season with all those beautiful colors around. I really like the memorial plaque "Dedicated to the Michigan Men and Women Who Gave Their Lives For Their Country", shown in the second photo.
And then the sign as you're leaving the Welcome Center to get back on the highway... make sure you turn right. ;-)
SIDENOTE: In case you're wondering who Jack L. Gingrass is, whom the Welcome Center is named in honor of, he was the State Representative for the 109th district here in the Upper Peninsula for 14 years, the Mayor for the city of Iron Mountain, along with serving on the Iron Mountain City Council, the Dickinson County Hospital Board, the Lake Superior State University Board, the Michigan Department of Transportation Board and a member of various other organizations.

A nice dedication to remind us of the price that was paid, so that we may enjoy the beauty around us. And the choice is obvious in the last shot.

Okay, now I can't wait until next summer! We always stop here on our way to the Keweenaw. When we get here - we're "here"! I know what you mean Deb, it's such a thrill to stop on the way up, but a little sad on the way back. Happy Weekend All!

That's exactly it, Greta. Though, we do stop both ways. It's tradition. We've stopped for a picnic more than once. Love it there. We got so many beautiful shots while we were up there. I look at them nearly every day.
